Amazon reportedly wants drivers to wear AR glasses for improved efficiency until robots can take over
Amazon is reportedly developing smart glasses for its delivery drivers, according to sources who spoke to Reuters. These glasses are intended to cut "seconds" from each delivery because, well, productivity or whatever. Sources say that they are an extension of the pre-existing Echo Frames smart glasses and are known by the internal code Amelia. These seconds will be shaved off in a couple of ways. First of all, the glasses reportedly include an embedded display to guide delivery drivers around and within buildings.
Amazon Echo Frames (3rd-gen) hands-on: Refined look, better sound, faster Alexa
Amazon's smart glasses have yet to impress us, but the company made big changes for its third-gen Echo Frames that could go along way in changing our minds. First, the company has upgraded the design, slimming down the area around your temples that houses all of the components. Amazon has also changed the look, continuing to make the glasses and sunglasses options look more like something you'd actually want to wear. What's more, it's working with the more fashion-minded Carrera Eyewear on smart glasses with a refined touch -- in addition to its own versions. First, there's the improved sound quality.

Amazon Hardware Event 2023: Alexa, Echo Hub, Echo Frames, Eero, Fire TV
Every fall, Amazon holds a "Devices and Services" media event where it unleashes a flood of new gadgets and software into the world. At the 2022 edition, Amazon announced a Kindle with a stylus, a robot dog, and a refreshed line of Echoes and Eeros, among other smart home gadgets. This year, the company was eager to prove that it hasn't been left behind by its rivals' recent advances in artificial intelligence and conversational interfaces. Executives showed off a smarter version of Alexa that's been given an AI boost, as well as new smart home products that harness Amazon's computer vision, machine intelligence, and face recognition technologies. There were some stumbling blocks during the presentation, but here are the highlights of what Amazon announced today.

Audio glasses, which have integrated microspeakers and a Bluetooth connection, are multiplying. Bose is leading the way with its Frames audio sunglasses. Amazon is also in the Bluetooth-glasses game with its Echo Frames, now on their second generation. A host of other companies, many of which are no-name Chinese manufacturers, have released audio glasses in recent months. Some are geared toward everyday use, allowing you to forgo headphones and stealthily listen to audio on the go, while others are designed for runners and bikers who want to leave their ears open to the world for safety reasons.
A bunch of Amazon Echo devices are already on sale for Black Friday
Black Friday for Echo and Fire TV devices has already started -- Amazon knocked down the prices of many of its Echo gadgets today. Most of the sale prices are the same as we saw during Amazon Prime Day in June, or even better. Discounts of note are the Echo for $60 and the second-generation Echo Show 5 for $45. While the latest Echo Show 8 isn't on sale yet, the first-gen device bundled with a Blink Mini security camera is $80 off as well, bringing it down to $65. You probably already know the deal with Echo devices, but we'll recap here.
Amazon adds new colors and software features to Echo Frames
When Amazon's Echo Frames smart glasses first became widely available, we found they were capable if somewhat boring. There simply weren't many styles, colors and sizes to choose from at launch. Thankfully, Amazon is working to address that issue. The company is introducing two new colors called "Quartz Grey" and "Pacific Blue." Amazon will offer both with a variety of lens options, including ones that filter out blue light.

Amazon's Alexa device sale includes a $55 Echo Show 5
Want a smart alarm clock to help you get back to work (or school) now that September is fast approaching? The internet giant is running a sale on Echo devices, and the latest Echo Show 5 is on sale for only $55, or an even $30 below its official price. You'll get a similar discount on the Echo Show 5 Kids model, which sells for $65 (down from $95) with a year of Amazon Kids service thrown in. Both prices are much lower than we saw just a few weeks ago. If you'd prefer something larger, the current-generation Echo Show 8 has dipped to $100, a $30 savings. And if you prefer Alexa on your face, the second-generation Echo Frames are down to an all-time low price of $180 (versus the usual $250).
Amazon rolls out male voice for its smart speakers
Amazon has started to roll out a male version of its smart assistant, called Ziggy, as an alternative to Alexa. Users of Amazon smart speakers in the US now have the option to choose from either Alexa or Ziggy when they're saying a vocal command. They can simply say'Alexa, change your voice' to hear the male voice coming out of their speaker, or go to settings in the Alexa app. There's a short snippet of Ziggy's voice – which has a generic but robotic-sounding American accent – to listen to here. Amazon's smart assistant powers the Echo speakers, including the spherical fourth generation Echo released last autumn (pictured) Note that this option is only available for US users for now.

Amazon's Echo Frames will soon come with blue-light filtering lenses
Amazon's Echo Frames are compatible with most prescription lenses, but they only come with clear lenses out of the box -- until now, anyway. The retail giant has introduced three new options to choose from if you're looking to buy a pair of the Alexa-powered eyewear. You can get it with polarized blue mirror sunglass lenses starting today, and starting on June 9th, you can get a pair with blue-light-filtering lenses and polarized classic sunglass lenses. The Echo Frames have open-ear audio near your temples, so you can listen to music, audiobooks and podcasts, as well as take calls without blocking the world around you. Since it also gives you hands-free access to Alexa, you can simply issue voice commands to control it, such as "Alexa, play my followed podcasts on Amazon Music" or "Alexa, resume my audiobook."
